To gain more recognition for GM1 gangliosidosis, we are endeavoring to have May 23 proclaimed as International GM1 Gangliosidosis Awareness Day by state and federal agencies. You can help by submitting a proclamation request to your state or federal representative.

17 States and Counting
Since 2022, families have secured GM1 Day recognition from 17 states, plus the cities of Carlsbad, California; Rantoul, Illinois; San Marcos, Texas; and Barrie, Ontario. Is your state next?

Steps to Submit a Proclamation Request
You can request a proclamation from your city, county, state, or the federal government, or all of the above! Every proclamation helps more people learn about GM1.
Use our State Proclamation Request Directory to find your governor’s request page and how much notice they need. For a city or county, search for your local proclamation request form. For federal recognition, ask your U.S. Representative or Senators to introduce a resolution. Look up your members of Congress at house.gov and senate.gov.
Download the cover letter template and the WHEREAS clauses and fill in your details. For Congress, use the congressional request letter and sample resolution. If the form has a “Deadline” field, enter May 16.
Fill out the online form or send the email. Each state sets its own deadline, from about 2 weeks to 120 days before May 23, so check the directory and submit as early as you can.
After you submit, email us at info@curegm1.org so we can keep our proclamation tracking database up to date.
Send a photo of your proclamation to info@curegm1.org. Some families take a picture with the signed proclamation or with their representative, or even present it on the steps of their state capitol. We love to share these photos on social media!
